Table of Contents (Listen): 7 Awesome Food Podcasts for 7 Days of the Week

Over the last year, I've started listening to a lot of podcasts. Such an effortless way to discover new things! I've been exploring all kinds of topics, from entrepreneurship stories, to workplace gyan, to indie music talk shows... and of course, a whole lot of food shows!

So here's a round up of some of my favourite food podcasts to keep you stimulated, informed and entertained through the week:

Monday Motivation: No Sugar Coat

Pastry Chef Pooja Dhingra interviews some of India's and the world's best chefs, to understand their journey to the top and challenges along the way. Fun and conversational while digging deeper than the glam factor of the #ChefLife, this is great Monday Motivation, especially if you're in the food industry or hoping to become a part of it soon.

Tuesday Trivia: Gastropod

You think you know what honey is all about? And obviously carrots are orange, right? Well, this podcast shows you whole new sides to foods you thought you knew! A podcast about the science and history of food - this is one of my favourites. I've written a whole post on why I love this Gastropod - you can read it here. Or better still, go have a listen to the podcast and decide for yourself!

Wednesday Wisdom: Food Radio Project

If you think food is only about #nomnom and #foodporn, I'd recommend a hearty serving of Wednesday Wisdom in the form of this podcast. A long-form journalistic podcast on the food system in India, it discusses current issues of food, with perspectives from the grassroots, academia, and policy makers. Hosted and produced by journalist Amrita Gupta, it looks at food beyond taste and pleasure, from the lenses of culture, economics, politics, and the environment.

Throwback Thursday: The Real Food Podcast

Hosted by renowned journalist and food writer Vikram Doctor, this series of short episodes (12-15 minutes) tell stories about India's favourite foods and beverages, filled with nostalgia, history and little known facts that will make you love these foods even more than you already do! Warning: this series is binge worthy!

Friday Feeling: The Slow Melt

The weekend is here, treat yo'self to some sweet, sweet chocolate! This podcast uncovers the whole world of chocolate - from the plant, the process, and the people (especially in the Makers Series) to the history, chemistry, and politics! It'll make you think twice the next time you pick up a slab of purple plastic-wrapped chocolate at the corner shop - and instead will have you reaching for that bar made with love and care and creative collaboration. The show is hosted by journalist Simran Sethi, author of Bread, Wine, Chocolate: The Slow Loss of Foods We Love, a book about the story of change in food & agriculture through these foods. I've only just begun listening to The Slow Melt, but I'm so excited to listen to more!

Saturday Morning: Ox Tales

Mix it up on Saturday, with this series of fascinating and thought provoking stories from the symposiats at the annual Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery! They cover a wide range of topics - from the story USA's oldest cooking competition to the significance of slurping in Japanese food culture! I haven't hear too many yet, but each one that I did hear was a fun discovery of something new. Oh, and Ox Tales has just released it's second season - from the 2018 Symposium.

Sunday Funday: Ologies

Disclaimer: this isn't a food-based podcast - but I love it so much I had to give it an honorary place on this list. Hilarious host Alie Ward (award winning science communicator across news, TV shows and podcasts) describes Ologies as a "comedic science podcast" insanely wide range of topics - from Somnology (sleep), to Matrimoniology (marriage), Selenology (the moon) and Felinology (cats) - yeah that's why it's called Ologies! Food related topics include Mixology (drinks) and Foor Andthropology (feasts) and Entomophagy Anthropology (eating bugs)! Kick back with a beverage of choice, plug in your earphones and prepare for a super fun and informative Sunday listen!

Bonus: my friend Kiwi (arts journalist, and radio show writer & host, and constant source of inspiration for yours truly) does a round up on her blog of podcasts for various moods, occasions and activities, covering a wider range of (non-food) topics - check it out here.

What are your favourite food (or non-food) podcasts?

Today the world consumes food content almost as much as we consume food itself. Whether we're wolfing down those #foodporn pictures on Instagram or slurping up the newest episode of Chef's Table, we have to admit, food itself must now share table space with food content.

Table of Contents is a periodic update on my favourite food content and media.
