About: The Long(ish) Version

Hello, You!

A long long time ago, a young girl who loved food - cooking it, eating it, and feeding it to people - decided she wanted to be a chef when she grew up.

A little later in life, she learned many new things about food, like the science, the art, the craft, and the stories behind it. She also learned that there are almost infinite career options in the world of food, Chef being only one of them.

So after finishing Grade 12 (A-Levels) at Mallya Aditi International School (MAIS) in Bangalore, she decided to take a year off from "formal education" and explore these career options.

No prize for guessing, that girl was me.

This blog is my attempt at recording and sharing my journey as an intern in the professional world of food over this gap year, and beyond.

Update:

The gap year is long over, and now I am ‘beyond’…

I am now pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management from Christ University, Bangalore, and training to be a…. Chef! Surprise-surprise!

Chef-in-training Shivani
Being in this course, with like-minded students, and professors who try to give us new opportunities and exposure every semester, helps me widen my understanding of the food industry, and equips me with technical skills and know-how.

It takes many perspectives to understand the many facets of food in the world – I am ready!

Another Update:

My college days are over and I am now a real adult human (hah!) working full time in the Food World! But this blog will continue to be the Chronicles of a Food Intern.

My understanding of an ‘intern’ is someone who tries to learn about a subject or field by way of observation or experience on the job. So while I may no longer be an "intern" by official designation, I continue to learn about the realm of food, and it’s many scientific and socio-cultural facets, through a combination of work experience and personal experiences. And as I learn, I will continue to share my reflections here.
