Melons!

They are in season at this time of year, and how happy I am that they are! Because they are the perfect staple for this blistering summer we’re having in Bangalore right now, when one hardly feels like eating a proper meal of hot, masaledar Indian food. Most days I find myself polishing of a whole melon for breakfast. And then another for a snack later in the day.

So at the moment, instead of buying our weekly supply of melon along with the rest of our fruits from our regular fruit vendor, we’ve started buying them from a melon wholesaler.

I love the way these wholesale melon stalls are set up all over the town, with piles and piles, some 3 feet tall, forming a sea of fruit around the vendors! It’s glorious!

And the beauty of something being “in season” is that it is extraordinarily inexpensive. In just 100 bucks we bought 7 melons (4 musk- and 3 water-)! To put it in perspective, that’s less than $2, or less than £1 for 7 melons! Beautiful, isn’t it?
