Day 9: Spicy Saturday Sundae!
After my grape and chili chutney, today I encountered another unlikely fruit and chili combination at an ice cream parlor called Berry'd Alive! -- Banana and chili.
It sounded like a supremely strange pair, so i ordered it! When it arrived it made a little more sense, caramelized bananas with red chili infused caramel syrup over vanilla ice cream.
Take a bite and first you get the soft and sweet caramelized banana. But then a spicy heat sneaks up on you from under the sweetness, hitting you on a spot right between your tongue and throat! Before the surprising sensation overwhelms you too much the cold vanilla ice cream comforts your taste buds. Intrigued, you take another spoonful, and the entire cycle starts again!
If you're the adventurous type with flavors, do give it a shot! I can't say yet whether it was a a flavor I'd frequent, but it was definitely worth a first try!
